Zion National Park

Thanks to an online deal we got a cabin down in Zion's for the weekend. It was just what we needed after a heavy load of work and classes during spring term. We left Friday morning and headed south. After a drive through rain and hail we got to the Zion Ponderosa Ranch and checked into our "cowboy cabin."
We headed into the park and couldn't believe how BEAUTIFUL everything was! This was as we were beginning our first hike: the upper, middle, and lower emerald pools.

The rain brought beautiful waterfalls but it was not fun to hike in this. Luckily a single drop didn't fall once we arrived. Mother Nature was very kind and brought us perfect sunny, 70 degree weather.

Trying to be romantic...Chris was obviously really into it...(that's his I'll smile only because you want me to face)

After a great evening of hiking we split an Alfredo pizza at the ranch and thought peach cobbler would be good for dessert. When the server brought it out, instead of peach cobbler we paid $8 for dry oatmeal with canned peaches. Gross. After that we decided based on a few past sour experiences (especially the $15 carrot cake we got at Christopher's in Salt Lake from the "spoken menu"-I've never been so mad) that dessert no longer has a place in our budget. It's just not worth it :( After dinner we took a dip in the jacuzzi to relax, watch the last of the sunset, and called it a day. I was so thankful we were not camping in the mud.

We woke up to a beautiful morning on the ranch, grabbed breakfast, packed our lunches and headed off to explore the park some more. The first hike was the canyon overlook. We couldn't believe the amazing things water can do!
After the Canyon Overlook we decided to tackle Angel's Landing. I was so proud of Chris for doing it despite his fear of heights! What a crazy hike! Try walking up a 2 foot wide trail with a 1400' drop on either side in some parts. It was a little freaky.

After angel's landing we did a few other hikes and then attempted to head up the narrows but because of the high water levels it was closed. Bummer. I'd say it was a pretty good day since we covered over 10 miles in hiking. That evening we decided to head into Springdale and ate at a yummy Mexican place. After we went to an Art Gallery party and saw beautiful photos taken by David J. West and I accidentally drank some white wine thinking it was grape juice (it looked really classy spitting it back in my cup in the middle of the gallery). It was such a great day but by the time we got back to our cabin we were so extremely exhausted! We couldn't ask for a better weekend :)
